Forbes Magazine Galleries
Malcom Forbes is undoubtedly best known for the magazine that bears his name. The late entrepreneur amassed a large fortune and spent a great deal of it amassing a large collection of toys, autographs and other curiosities. Forbes collection is now on display on the first floor of the 5th Avenue Forbes Building. The collection includes over 10,000 toy soldiers, early versions of the "Monopoly" board game, an incredible fleet of toy boats, and - oddly enough - 175 trophies. There is some historical importance to the collection as well.
Forbes had over 4000 documents of historical interest, including Andrew Jackson's will, Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation and the original survey of the Mason Dixon line. Also on display are 12 Faberge Easter Eggs. Only the Queen of England has more. Admission to the collection is free. While the Forbes Gallery may not be the most spectacular museum that you will visit during your stay in New York, it certainly provides a fascinating way to pass an hour or two.
