New York City - Burroughs
When most people think of New York City, they think of the small island of Manhattan - New York's "downtown". But the city actually consists of 5 distinct Burroughs. Manhattan is the hub and the heartbeat for the rest of the city. Brooklyn is an enormous city in its own right. Home to Coney Island and its famous amusement park, you will find a New York that is far different than the one you experience on Manhattan Island. Queens is a cultural melting pot. Some have said that a visit to Queens is like a trip around the world. Perhaps the best evidence of the cultural diversity in Queens is Astoria which is rich in Greek tradition. Queens has played host to the World's Fair on two separate occasions, and the buildings constructed for them are now the home of the Queens Museum of Art.
In the Bronx you can visit the Bronx Zoo and International Wildlife Conservation Park. Exhibits include the Spooky World of Darkness housing nocturnal animals, Himalayan Highlands, Jungle World and the Skyfari tramway. The Bronx is also home to "The House that Ruth Built" or Yankee Stadium, where legendary baseball greats like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe Di Maggio and Micky Mantle played. Staten Island is a ferry ride away from Manhattan. There you will find Richmond Town, an architectural and historic replica, preserved in the ongoing restoration of a 17th-19th century village, and the Gateway National Recreation Area.
