The Museum of Modern Art New York
One of New York's best museums is currently undergoing a $650 million renovation, which has completely closed down the museum. However, there is still plenty to see at MoMA QNS - a satellite museum in Long Island City, Queens, which houses a portion of the museum's permanent collection as well as some special exhibitions. Getting to Long Island City is not difficult - public transit offers a variety of options in New York - and you will enjoy seeing some of the rest of the city outside of Manhattan.
The Museum of Modern art has a large collection of masterpieces, including works by Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet and Mondrian. This is where Claude Monet's Water Lilies and Van Gogh's Starry Night call home. Aside from paintings, there are exhibitions of photography, video, film and sculpture. MoMA's temporary exhibits are regarded to be some of the best in the world. While you can't currently see everything in the permanent collection, you will not be disappointed by what you do see.
